This is a raised platform approximately 3 metres in height that was initially constructed using materials from the area (rocks and mud), with the later addition of cement as a structural reinforcement. The old Samos wine delivery systems (stafylodochoi) operated successfully until the early 90s, when the current modern delivery systems were installed in Cooperative Wineries, at which point the stafylodochoi were abandoned permanently. The stafylodochoi of Agios Konstantinos and Vourliotes are located in muscat wine zone hubs, but there is no longer any use or operation for them.

Cement platform for the delivery of the area’s grapes. It included a ground level area that was approximately 3 metres tall, so that grape loading vehicles could fit inside. It is no longer in use and operates as a parking area for the volunteer fire department team of the area.

Visitors will find the enormous abandoned buildings that were once used as centres for storing and trading Samos wine (tavernes), as well as stone collection tanks that were “taken” by the sea. These tavernes were built in Kampos Vourlioton and the coastal zone of Agios Konstantinos, so that the sea breeze ensured better wine preserving conditions. The grapes and wine were gathered there as the farmers transported them on mules via the old trails. One old trail that is in good condition to this day, led from the Margarites and Valeontades hamlets to the tavernes of Agios Konstantinos and the tavernes  of Kampos Vourlioton.

These old wine warehouses were still in use in the early post-war years, and then fell out of use and were subsequently abandoned.

Metaxa Liknon is the new home of the House of Metaxa on the island of Samos, in the village of Vourliotes. It is a model organic vineyard with 100 years old vines, on the slopes of Mount Ampelos.

The special architectural design, focusing on the traditional dry-stone terraces and terraces of Samos, makes the house of Metaxa more of a landscape than a special building within the area of a vineyard. It extends the terraces with the dry-stone walls of the vineyard, incorporating into the natural landscape a series of cave houses that on the one hand are submerged in the earth and on the other hand gaze at the green slopes of the area.

The area, which also functions as a museum of the Metaxa brand, is a functional vineyard with small-berry vines, which are traditionally harvested by hand, being a model of organic farming that fully respects the environment. In this way, Metaxa brand lays the foundations for a green future with respect to nature that does not exhaust the land and does not reach its limits for the sake a larger production.

At the entrance Vourliotes village one can identify the Cooperative building on the right.

The Vourliotes Cooperative was created in this important wine producing village of Samos, with the establishment of the Enosis (UWC) in 1934. It operated for the secretarial support of vine-growers, subsidies and advance payments, and it supplied farmers with agricultural supplies.

The building, owned by the UWC, after the lifting of the obligation law (2016), had no further reason to operate, and therefore remains unused.
